Christmas-Kwanzaa Celebration
Each holiday season, CWAH partners with The St. Louis American in a community outreach
effort to help families who are less fortunate during the holiday season.
In November a call for families in posted in the St. Louis American. Individuals who live in the city of St. Louis can submit or have someone else submit a letter on their behalf explaining their living situation, their issues, and most importantly their goals.
After the deadline all the letters will be read by a special committee and 10 to 15 families will be to become 'adopted families' for the holidays. Those families stories will be posted in the paper by number not by name. *Note: CWAH and The St. Louis American do not select the families.
After the families have been chosen, they will be contacted by the CWAH staff and volunteer case managers. A home visit will be made to address any of the families concerns and needs-short term and long term.
In Mid-December a Christmas/Kwanzaa celebration is held for all the selected families; where they are given their holiday gifts, served a special dinner, meet Santa, have a Kwanzaa celebration, and meet the CWAH staff, board, and volunteers.
More importantly they will become clients of CWAH and will participate in the various programs, workshops, and support services that CWAH has to offer.
